The pawn stars have been through hard times in recent years, and the biggest of these events was the loss of The Old Man. Richard Harrison was the man who got the family into the pawn business in the first place, and his presence not being on the show is a huge loss to this day. Especially for his family, including grandson Corey, who inherited some key things from the old man both tangible and intangible.

The Old Man passed away surrounded by his family, a very fitting way to go out as it were. Harrison received many honors in his life. Including him, Rick, and the Pawn Stars family being given the key to the City of Las Vegas. It's been well documented that the Old Man left a will to his family, and that will was read and exercised as requested.It's very easy to look at the Harrisons and see them as the massive successes that they are today and only that. They're rich, they're famous, Rick even had a $4 million dollar home for sale and the Old Man had some nice digs too for him and his wife. Corey has a lot of expensive things as well to call his own like cars, a house, and various other trinkets. Corey is growing in his knowledge of everything about pawn. Every day he learns something, every single transaction is special and can teach him something about an item that he didn't know. And that's the kind of thing that the Old Man would want him to inherit from him. His experience, and the knowledge that sometimes things go wrong and you have to grow from them to not repeat the mistakes of the past.When a loved one like a grandfather, or a father, passes away, the child or grandchild often has to ask themselves what the "legacy" is that they're passing on. Or, what they can do in order to live up to the legacy that they have left behind. For Rick Harrison, his place in the legacy is pretty much set. He still owns and runs the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, it's still a successful business, and he's got plenty of money to provide for his family should they need it, Corey included.
