The honor system in Red Dead Online provides players with two basic ways to play the game. They can go the honorable route and defend caravans, raid gangs and spare their leaders, help strangers out. All of these choices have their merits, as this will allow players to get bonus XP as well as free gifts from the strangers they rescue as well as discounts in shops.

But alternately, they can go the more natural route one may wish to adopt in the old west and be an outlaw themselves. While it is indeed harder to gain honor than it is to lose honor, it still is tricky to lower your honor to the lowest level.
