Sonic Forces was in development before Sonic Mania, but was overshadowed with the spectacular gameplay of the latter. The Sonic Forces gameplay may not be as flashy and inspired as Sonic Mania, but it's still a step above Sonic Boom. The decision to create your own custom Sonic the Hedgehog character was inspired by the amount of (creepy) art by the internet itself. Seriously, you want to play a game? Google "YOUR NAME the Hedgehog" and see what pops up. I warned you.
